So, this small job was simple and easy. That doesn't take away from it's functionality! A good friend of mine had some left over material from a job in PA... so he asked us to make a patio for his father. Prime example of simple!

Stone Columns and Bay Window

This job was for a man by the name of Steve. He is a great guy and needed some help revamping the front of his home. With some consultation and planning... we came up with this. The caps on columns were a bit of a challenge. I cut them from actual flagstone with a quickie saw. I think they turned out amazing. The stone used was Honey Suckle from general shale. Although the stone was time consuming to lay... i believe the extra time and effort were worth the end product!

Downtown Rogersville
Janine & Deb
Floor Restoration

Have your ever had a vision? Perhaps it was to hike a trail your coworker had mentioned, possibly considered doing something different with your life, or maybe even chasing a dream of being your very own business owner. All these visions have something in common!  They all still involve work!

I met Janine and the  more I learned about her, the more I respected her. She is a long time nurse, long time wife, and most importantly a long time mother. I realized that she had a vision along with Deb. They both wanted to own their own business! So they found a perfect location and started their adventure of planning and opening their store in Historic downtown Rogersville.

First, they needed some renovation. This requires asking and searching for help. Luckily, I was selected to lend them a hand. Not only was I grateful for the opportunity to work on a piece of historic Rogersville, I was also thankful for the relationship along the way with both of them. So after selecting the stain and finish of polyurethane, I began.

This hardwood floor was simply ruined(In my eye). The paint was chipping, fading, and was just plain ugly. Perhaps it was functional for the previous tenants who taught gymnastics, but it needed restored to say the least.  As soon as I started the sanding process, it was evident that it wasn't going to be a walk in the park. After going over the 900 sq. ft. floor 4 times with different grits of sand paper, we were ready for the staining process.

Next, after the cleanup of the sanding process, we began staining the floors. I must say, using heavy duty plastic gloves keeps your hands clean. They also, over time, fill up with sweat and prune your hands. Regardless of the status of my hands, I laid down some sweet strokes with a 10 inch lambskin applicator loaded with dark walnut stain to the  freshly sanded floor. This step was rather... breathtaking. With 3 fans circulating the airflow out the front door, I still had to take a few breaths of fresh air. Aside from the scent of stain, the color change was astonishing. I was getting excited to seeing the polyurethane go down.

Finally, it was time for the money maker coat. Satin was the choice of finish of the Polyurethane. This step was very satisfying. After applying the first stroke, I knew this was going to make the entire floor. The first coat went down like a dream. As I worked my way to the exit, I could see the lights glimmering off of the finish. Knowing this glossy look would soon change, I had to snap some photos for the what ifs. After all was said and done, the floor looked like new. The greyish-blue  paint was gone, and the dark stain and satin polyurethane combo had proven to be a wonderful choice.

This job was very rewarding. I had some excellent help while getting to spend some quality time with my nephew, Jeremiah.  The floor was completed in time for the grand opening of Eclectic Ave.  During the process of renovating the floor, I was able to enjoy some fantastic food on the corner of the block from a local restaurant, Oh Henry's.  Rogersville was full of some wonderful people I was able to meet and hand a few business cards to.  All in all, the job was rewarding for both my career and my soul.  Eclectic Ave, and their newly finished floor, will make a great addition to downtown Historic Rogersville.

I apologize in advance for my grammar and punctuation. English and composition was always a weakness.
